A Devotional Journey
     led by Dr. Gene Pearson
Thru the Bible in a Year

These chapters are filled with reminders:  don’t forget the Lord; don’t forget your own inadequacy without Him; don’t forget your sin; and don’t forget God’s grace.  In response to all this give God the reverence He is due as you love and obey Him.
Remember how the Lord led you all the way.  In 8:2, Moses urges his people to do something each of us needs to do as well.  We are where we are.  We may feel blessed or cursed at this particular moment.  Things may be going well or terrible, but God has been with us in the past, has brought us through this far and we have every reason to believe He can see us through the present or any future problem.
For the LORD...is bringing you to a good Land.  In 8:7, Moses reminds his people and us that the outcome is already decided, and just as at the beginning, at the conclusion of each day, so in the end when our lives are completed, God will be able to say It is good, because He is at work in our lives and leading us to eternal life.
You may say to yourself, ‘My power and strength have produced this wealth for me.’  But remember the LORD... In 8:17, Moses reminds us of our arrogant, illogical and foolish pride and urges caution and perspective.  It is God who has made us and not we ourselves says Psalm 100.  We do well to remember this.
Be assured that the LORD is the one who goes ahead of you  In 9:3, Moses’ words are again so pointed and encouraging.  God’s promises are amazing and He keeps them all!  What then shall we fear? writes the Psalm writer (27:1)
And now,...what does the LORD...require of you but to reverence Him...to walk in all His ways, and to love and serve [Him]...with all your heart and...soul  Why not?  What could stop anyone from loving and serving the God who makes such wonderful promises and does such wonderful things?

Have you told God how much you love Him lately?  Have you thought through how safe you must ultimately be if He is on your side?
Think of ten issues, problems, or challenges in your life.  Write them down and then bring them to God in prayer.  When you are finished asking His help, draw a line through each one.  That is the way it works – in reality, in the long run, that is the way it works!
