Chapter 14 presents the reason a faithfulness: God’s people with share His triumph!
Once again, the 144,000 represent the complete number of those who have been redeemed by Christ. The 3 angels go forth to give yet one more opportunity to those who have rejected Christ to repent. As this response does not occur, God’s judgment is reaped upon the earth.
In chapter 15, 7 angels with 7 plagues (the last of God’s judgment) are commissioned.
They are each given a bowl filled with the wrath of God
and sent into the earth to bring about the end. This is the second time the end is depicted, but at this point, as in the story of the Garden of Eden, the picture is expanded so we see precisely what kind of action is involved.
All 7 Bowls are poured out in chapter 16,
and, not surprisingly by now, the response of those who oppose God is to curse Him! In this chapter, we again hear the words of Christ:
“Behold, I come like a thief! Blessed is he who stays awake and keeps his clothes
with him, so that he may not go naked and be shamefully exposed.”
The need for preparedness is stressed throughout the New Testament.
Are you ready for Christ’s return?
Are you living for Him? Is your life focused on Him? Are you serving Him? Think of some aspect of your life which needs to be changed for the better and ask God to help you grow. Make that growth one of your resolutions for a new year.
